I just took the nerd quiz. It said that I was only lightly nerdy at 48% nerdy. I have to admit I'm a little bit dissapointed. I always thought of myslef as more nerdy than that....but maybe I am thinking of geeky....
In reference to that particular issue, you see why we "REAL" geeks call it "Internet Exploder". To put it simply, IE SUCKS!
But regardless, you should be able to get to it fine with http://messenger.yahoo.com.
My suggestion for a true geek: get Firefox. It's a much better browser: more stable, less flaky, MUCH less susceptible to hacks than the others, and it's got a smaller kernel footprint as well so it runs a LOT faster. (say goodbye to the 15 second lag everytime you open Internet Explorer)
If you're interested, go to www.mozilla.org and get Firefox 1.0.
(not the whole Mozilla suite though... you don't need all that)

And if you're not that familiar with ALL the messengers, don't get into Trillian yet. It's feature-heavy and confusing if you're new at it.
